First Time a Charm!
Atlantic City, NJ (March 11, 2007) – One of the fastest-growing demographics of poker is among women.  A generation ago, women were a rare sight inside poker rooms.  Today, they comprise a significant part of the card playing market.

Tournament Structure Improves at WPT LA Poker Classic Ladies Event
How many tournaments have you played, where you said it turned out to be a “crap shoot” because of the poor structure?    Unfortunately, I’ve heard it and said it myself too many times.  I finally learned to check the tournament structures before making up my mind if I really wanted to play.  Playing poorly and playing a fast structure can be harmful to your game, why would you want to put yourself through such a fate?  The answer is simple.  What choice do you have?

It’s a First at Borgata Ladies Event
Winter cold didn’t keep the ladies away for the first LIPS event at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City.  Several ladies were in the holiday spirit with Santa Hats, colorful holiday sweaters and more importantly, a friendly engagement of poker!

With 600 poker players setting sail on Card Player Cruises’ Mexican Riviera week long vacation, it was a record number for them.  It was a first time cruise for many passengers and it would be one they wouldn’t soon forget!

Christine Rebardo, 21, in First-Ever Event, Wins Ladies $200 No-Limit
“I was proud to be the youngest person at the table,” Christine Rebarto, 21, wrote on her bio sheet. She was also the luckiest. Playing in her first tournament, she started the ladies $200 no-limit event with only 16,000 of the 600,000 chips in play, went all in six times and survived each time before finally taking all the chips in the eighth event of the Harrah’s WSOP Circuit at Harrah’s Atlantic City. The victory brought her $12,800 and a diamond-and-gold championship pendant.

Wild Horses Couldn’t Keep These Ladies Down!
It’s midweek Tuesday and you would never know it with all the ladies who made their way over to Pendleton Oregon for the Pendleton Poker Round Up Ladies Event.  With hosts Susie Isaacs, Marsha Waggoner, Karina Jett, and Carol Hale (Oklahoma Johnny Hale’s better half), and the one and only “Suck Out Susie” where anyone with a bad beat story can go and share their woes of the tables.

Who Turned on the White Stuff?
Peppermill Casino in Reno put the ladies in the spotlight by hosting the LIPS tournament in the main poker room of the casino.  This lent itself to a fabulous viewing of the action and final table happenings with a spacious rail in the center of the casino.

Women making mark on poker
MASHANTUCKET -- Few people would accuse poker fan April Dora of being a fair-weather fan, even though she switched sides during the World Poker Finals $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Championship Thursday at Foxwoods Resort Casino.

A Trip To The WPT Final Table
What turned out to be an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience did not begin very smoothly for Kelli Griggs, the 2006 World Poker Tour (WPT) Ladies Night IV qualifier.  Griggs, who had returned from the filming of Ladies Night two days prior to our meeting, was still on Cloud 9 when we met for lunch.  As I listened intently, she regaled me with all sorts of amusing tales, as well as the more serious side of the WPT Ladies Night tournament.

Homemaker Tiffany Gleason Wins Ladies After Long Head-ups Battle
It took only 31 hands to get heads-up at the final table, but it took another 48 more before Tiffany Gleason could claim victory in the sixth event of the Harrah’s WSOP Circuit at Caesars Indiana, the ladies championship. Gleason is 35-year-old homemaker and mother of two from Elkhart, IN. Before marriage she was a restaurant manager. Her final opponent, Reyna Bennett, is a restaurant owner.

ELECTRONIC POKER TABLES
During the gaming expo at the WSOP I came upon a large setup of 2 very strange poker tables. There was a large LCD in the middle of the table where a felt should have been and 10 computer screens all around the sides of a it. This electronic table is the wave of the future. They are made by a company called  Pokerprotek. Their motto is “Gets more play than you.” They call each table a PokerPro for short. All the seats around both tables were filled and there was more people ready and waiting to fill the next available seat. They were running one table shoot outs with promotional gifts for the winners. I stepped up and was eager to check it out. I was asked by one of their rep’s where I lived. I told her Los Angeles. She then handed me a PokerPro Account Card with a free $50 dollars on it (weeeee!!!) to be used at Hollywood Park Casino. I was confused and replied that they don’t have none of these poker tables there. She went on to explain that HPC is the first casino in California to be putting them in. Another weeee!!  I only live 10 minutes away from HPC and I stomp around there a lot.

THE WSOP SOLUTION
I am writing this article on behalf of my friends that came to attend this years WSOP. They flew all the way from South Africa to Las Vegas after winning their main event prize package from online poker sites. That’s 22 hours of  transit. A long haul but they were very excited to come. Most had never been to Las Vegas let alone America. When they got to The Rio, the staff couldn’t find their buy-ins or paperwork. It took two days before everything got sorted out. A select few of them had attended last year and have  traveled to other tournaments such as The Monte Carlo Millions and The Aussie Millions. At those tournaments champagne awaits you in your room and all your meals are free.

THE WSOP GAMING EXPO
Walking through the gaming expo at the WSOP this year I was blown away by the marketing from the companies that were there. The most crazy site name besides Crazy Poker was Stinky Fish Poker. They had an open booth with a mock dock (hey that rhymes) and several models dressed in tiny gold mini shorts with one covered in aqua blue body paint. It was really weird. But neat in a freaky sense. They caught my eye and I will always remember them after the fact that the models told me how the marketing guys had wanted to have the words “Smell Here” stitched to the front of their shorts. They did give me my favorite piece of swag. It is a green rubber buoy keychain which I will definitely use because I love to go fishing.

Kelli Griggs Tops Ladies Night Out
Ladies Night Out is a special women’s event that combines poker, charity, and 2 broadcast mediums.  The Bicycle Casino and  the World Poker Tour, have teamed up to support The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  A portion of the buy-in was donated to the foundation and in a tournament first, Denny Williams, tournament director at The Bicycle Casino, pledged that any tournament penalty can be exchanged for cash that will be donated to the foundation as well.  One unnamed women went up to the tournament desk, blurted out the F-bomb (twice) and exchanged her 20-minute penalty with a $20 bill.  There were several other penalties issued throughout the tournament and I understand over $100 was donated.

Ladies Night at the Bicycle Casino
The beautiful Bicycle Club Casino in Los Angeles, California, is once again host to the WPT Ladies Night Open. The defending champion, actress and poker player Jennifer Tilly will be amongst the invited five players to compete for the First place prize of a $25,500 seat in the WPT World Championship, which will be held at the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas.
