With 600 poker players setting sail on Card Player Cruises’ Mexican Riviera week long vacation, it was a record number for them. It was a first time cruise for many passengers and it would be one they wouldn’t soon forget!
The Holland America Oosterdam is a gorgeous ship and the staff and service is one of the best on the seas. The cardroom had the most amazing view given it was located in the “Crow’s Nest” way up front on the ship and on the highest level. Thirty tables alive with any game you would want to play. All levels including a beginners table for those partners who came on the cruise and didn’t know how to play. Each night the poker room would cater to the night owls and not close until the last table of players called it a night. Every time you walked into the card room, you felt like you were walking into a party!
The LIPS event was no different…. The buzz was alive when the ladies gathered at the tables. This event took place at the same time as the “Omaha H/L event” and to say the least, those players were jealous that they weren’t enjoying all the fun goodies of the day like the ladies were!
Eighty women cozied up for a day of fun and great competition. With a gorgeous view of the Baja coast in our view, they settled in to battle it out. The LIPS Champion of Champions, Jill Cohen was in the mix as well as Lisa and Laurette who won their way aboard the cruise. Also former LIPS Champion Gail Abbot rounded off the tough field of players.
When asked, Jill Cohen shared, “What an amazing trip this has been… this is my first cruise, but it won’t be my last!” This seemed to be the sprit of many of the ladies aboard the cruise.
When the final table came together, it was a group of really good players. But when it came down to the end, it was a battle of the big stacks. Patty Brodsky of Edina, Minnesota and Debby Perkins of Santa Monica, California went heads up for what seemed to be hours. But in a few key hands, Debby claimed the title of the first LIPS Champion from Card Player Cruises!
“I love this event! It couldn’t have been more fun” said Debby Perkins, “Thank you so much for the opportunity”.
