Dreamy was the Weekend!

Ladies from all over the country landed upon the Commerce Casino for a weekend of poker, food, shopping and fun. This two-day event was kicked off by a fabulous buffet and wine tasting event. Ladies gathered around for introductions and chat and many made fast friends after comparing poker schedules and where theyll be next.
This is the first time in 4 years we have had the Ladies Dream Weekend and teaming up with the LIPS Tour was a great way to launch bring it back. Said Cheri Doddken, Tournament Director for Commerce Casino. We hope this will be the beginning of many more Dream Weekend Events to come she added.
Once lunch was over, the ladies headed up to the ballroom area where several vendors were displaying their wares. I love coming to the LIPS events and talking with the ladies about what kind of Good Luck Charms they use in poker. We offer a variety of lucky charms to suit everyones taste. Said Vikki Anderson of PokerCharms.com. Also there was Jacqueline Britton of PocketJJacks.com who has a great line of specialty poker wear and has also done custom work for many of the pro players. It was hard to find good poker wear outside of plain screened shirts you can buy anywhere. So being in the fashion industry, I decided to launch a line of good quality, embellished high end poker shirts and accessories. Jacqueline is a poker player herself and she provides products that poker players would want. Rounding off the poker gear vendors was Susie Isaacs, professional poker player and author. She has created a beautiful line of poker jewelry. From fun costume jewelry, to high end collectors pieces. Her line is a reflection of her. Fun, sparkly and classy
. Who wouldnt want a piece to call their own! The last vendor was the feature of the weekend. Artistry provided something different and unique for the tournament. Cheri Doddken wanted something special instead of a trophy for this event. So she commissioned a gallery to create some special pieces of art for the winners of both days events. I want our winners to be able to show off with something special and also that is valuable as time goes on. A trophy is good, but art is special Doddken shared.
By the time the tournament started, 317 ladies had been wined and dined and shopped til they dropped. Now they were ready for some serious poker. Amongst the ladies present was JJ Liu, one of the few women to make it to a WPT Final Table, as well as a second place finisher in the LIPS event at the Mirage earlier this year. Linda Johnson and Jan Fisher were honored guests and speakers for the next days event and also joining the ladies was Barbara Enright, first woman to make a final table of the WSOP main event.
The fun didnt stop even though the tournament had started. LIPS Tour provided several fun prizes throughout the tournament like poker glasses from sponsors PokerSpecs.com, LIPS visors, poker candles, and more. Also each woman received a bottle of wine as an entry gift from the Commerce Casino, and a parting t-shirt gift from LIPS sponsors Bluff Magazine.
After 10 hours of play, the final table kicked off and Diana Korkis rose up victorious. She managed to hold on to the chip lead for most of the event. But the ladies werent giving up easily. They pushed and pushed and chipped away at her for a long time but the cards eventually were in her favor. She won her first place money, and a seat into the historic Commerce Casino/LIPS/WPT $1,000 buy in for February and a seat into the LIPS Tour Championship where she will represent Commerce Casino as a Champion.
It was wonderful watching the ladies stick around and hit the cash tables, enjoy dinner together, and hang out socializing all evening. But, they knew they had to go into battle again the next day for another round of tournament play.
This time, Commerce Casino put up another amazing buffet and then the ladies gathered with pen and paper ready to get hot tips on tournament play from Linda Johnson and Jan Fisher. If you have never enjoyed a seminar from these ladies, then youre really missing something. Not only are they amazing players and provide you with a no nonsense approach to poker, but the stories and antedotes keep you in stitches.
Then it was time to shuffle up and deal again for the $200 buy in event. This time 171 players took to the felt and really took their time with the extended structure. I love this structure! I wish all the ladies events could be like this one. I often find that ladies events are hurried and we arent given the time we need so the tables can be filled up again with open events. said Teresa Shielding of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She continued, I came all the way out here with my girlfriends when I saw this event in the LIPS newsletter and saw that not only was I getting a poker vacation to California, but a really good tournament to play in too!
At the end of the day, final table winners battled it out until there were two left, Kim Hyunhye from Lawndale, CA and Laura Wilson from Canada. They went back and forth for quite awhile and at one point were almost even in chips. But a couple of key hands and it was over when Kim hit the winning hand giving her the win and the seats to the other events. Wow, this was a great time said Kim. These women are good players.
The Dream Weekend was a huge success and the ladies are looking forward to many more good times with LIPS and the Commerce Casino.
